The Take Joy Society got together today at a restaurant named District Provision & Supply Company. We were all curious about the restaurant's name. Cindy, a lifelong resident of the county remembers that the building was once used by a cobbler where you'd take your boots to have the heels repaired.
In attendance were Cindy, Chris, and her friend, Marilyn, who is new to our group, and Edie who drove four hours from her home in Virginia. Carol, unfortunately, was unable to join us.
After lunch we drove over to the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts where they were hosting another exhibit of picture-book illustrations. In 2016 we visited the museum to see their Little Golden Books exhibit.
This article in the Frederick News Post tells the story behind the exhibit. It was interesting to see up close many of the original art for the illustrations . . .
The museum had this handout to help children further explore the illustrations with questions like, "Can you find characters that look: Confused? Proud? Surprised?" and "What colors, types of lines, and shapes did the artists use to create [a certain mood]?". . . .
Did you have a favorite picture book as a child or that you read to your child?
