WELCOME

WELCOME to the Take Joy Society. We are a group of ladies who first met because of our love of Tasha Tudor's art and lifestyle. We are broadening our focus to include other artists/writers/people of interest who embody Tasha's philosophy to Take Joy in all the good that life has to offer. Here you will find a record of our get-togethers and resources to help you see that the gloom of the world is but a shadow so that you, too, can Take Joy by Creating Joy in your life!

❤️ of the Home - June

June is the month you get out of prison--otherwise known as school.  Even as a parent I looked forward to the end of the school year so that I could have my children home with me.  What I didn't look forward to was the heat and humidity.  Susan Branch writes about how she dealt with hot summer days when she was a child. . . .

She also looked forward to the camping trips her family always took as soon as school was out. . . .

When I was a child we'd visit my grandparents' farm in the middle of nowhere Mississippi.  The stars always filled the sky and the fireflies provided the entertainment after dark.

June is also the month we celebrate our Dads.  Susan has written a post about hers HERE.  He would sometimes write comments on her posts and came to be known as Blog Daddy.  Unfortunately, he passed on in May of last year.  He is missed greatly by many.

Susan has written a cookbook just for summer. . . .

One of her recipes is Pineapple Upside-Down Cake. . . .

You can see her make the recipe HERE on her blog.

Another recipe she loves to make in the summer is. . . .

You can see her make it in this post:  Waiting for a Rain Storm

She has some delicious lemonade recipes, too. . . .

Now that Susan has her garden well under way she shows us her side porch garden in her Container Garden post.

What do you think of when you think of summer?

  1. Love, love, love SB ... as always! Summer in southern Alabama? Sweltering! Much appreciation for indoor air-conditioning, frozen yogurt, and occasional visits to the breezy beaches. Wishing you a pleasant and joyful summer!

    1. I wish we had a beach nearby! It's a 3-hour-drive in heavy traffic on weekends. Before we had A/C in this house we'd spend as much time in the basement as possible where it was always cooler. So far, our summer has felt more like Spring!

  2. It seems the memories of summer are more vivid when there was a heat wave and life was a tad dramatic. Maybe that's because those days happened in my childhood before we had a/c. Enjoyed all the SB things! I've got to make gazpacho again. It's been years!

    1. They say memories that are attached to emotions are recalled more easily. I have vivid memories of my childhood and wrote them all down a few years ago in my "memoir". I think it's good for us to remember those times to help keep our child-likeness alive, especially as we grow older!
